Activities and community involvement

One of the many things which make our school special is the variety of whole school activities we do each year and the involvement of our parents, which make all of these possible. Every year in addition to class camps and trips, the whole school participates in at least one inquiry-based off-site trip. In recent years these have included visits to Milford Sound, walking on the Kepler Track to Doc Bay, and experiencing Astronomy Fiordland's Stardome. Each year the whole school also participate together in activities such as daily fitness programmes, athletics training, gym skills, winter sports, and musical productions as well as regular community events such as the pet show, bi-annual swede festival and veggie festival. As a school, we are committed to ensuring that our children receive a broad range of educational experiences. The active support and involvement of our parents and the wider community ensure that we are able to do so.

Opportunities for Sport

Mararoa School has a long tradition of developing excellent skills in a variety of sports. Each year our children are coached by a combination of teachers, parents and professional sport coaches in sports such as, rugby, netball, soccer, volleyball, hockey, tennis, athletic skills, gymnastics, cross country running and swimming. We compete against local schools at organized annual events, and many of our children succeed in qualifying for competitive events at the regional and province level. The children also have opportunities to be introduced to other sports through programmes offered by visiting coaches. In the past these have included cricket and golf.
